Willy and Wally. A Woman and a Man in two conical rubbish tips up to their necks.

Willy and Wally are drowning in mountains of plastic, resigned to the fact that they will soon be swallowed entirely. As well as talking a load of rubbish, they perform amusing, poignant monologues and cutting, edgy dialogue.

The image of Winnie in Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days is acknowledged as an appropriation and extension of that brilliant work encapsulating our existential plight with the addition of weighty ethical arguments around climate change.

Willy and Wally‘s main beef is climate change denial: blame shifting, techno-optimism, hedonistic fatalism, Gaia theory, ‘climate change fatigue’… It’s a fabulous act for the street with the possibility of having a ‘Speaker’s Corner’ feel as well as a clownish vaudevillian turn.

The structures are portable aluminium frames on wheels with a plastic ‘rubbish’ surround. Their faces are lit by small lights and their voices are amplified.
