Increasing Access at Derby Feste – One Moon Project
Access & Diversity
A human chain of over 200 people from across communities.
The project, One Moon, was created around the Museum of the Moon by Luke Jerram being presented in Derby Cathedral and work within the Derby Festé 2019 theming of Space, Moon and Tides. The project resulted in a human chain of over 200 people from across communities.
One Moon had special educational needs and disability focus bridging work which was already taking place in the city. The aim was to raise awareness of the opportunities available for Deaf and disabled people to get involved with to Derby Festé, particularly among groups and organisations who had not taken part in the festival before.
The festival did this by:
- Reaching out to SEND schools (Special Education Needs and Disability).
- Connecting Derby Festé to other opportunities for Deaf and disabled people across the city that year. This included projects such as multi-sensory and BSL enabled show Splash! and This Is Derby, events such as Derby Signfest and organisations such as Hubbub Theatre, which hosted the East Midland’s first training programme for actors with learning disabilities.
