Unwound

Upswing

Dance, Aerial

Upswing is an exciting new company which sets out to ensure circus is represented as a live and kicking art form which challenges cultural barriers and expectation.

Upswing works with the human body to tell stories of people, their culture and the world we all share using high quality circus blended with theatrical performance, memorable music and the imaginative use of visual imagery. Previous work has included “Voices”, a meditative aerial duet and “Luved Up” a collaboration with Jonzi D for the Trafalgar Square Festival. With “Unwound”, UpSwing integrated aerial choreography and use of costume structures to create a visual spectacle that unravels the layers we build around ourselves to establish our identity.

About Upswing

Upswing is a leading contemporary circus company with a vision for a more connected future.

Its productions weave aerial, theatre, dance, text and multimedia to create fresh experiences with a narrative punch. It is an award-winning company and committed to creating world-class experiences, but our dream goes further than this.

It believes society can be improved by closer physical and emotional connection. Its productions and creative engagement programs unite people from different backgrounds – audiences, artists and participants all come together to discover new narratives that create diverse and powerful temporary communities.

It is circus’ unique combination of risk-taking, trust and collaboration that reveals our potential to achieve the extraordinary together. Upswing harnesses this broad appeal:  fearless, precarious and uncompromising, contemporary circus is an art form like no other. We believe it has the power to impact real change and create space for people to see the incredible potential in themselves and others.
