Hat Fair Winchester
Hat Fair is Britain's longest running Celebration of Street Arts and Community. In 1974 it started as a buskers' festival where performers passed around a hat to collect a donation after their show - hence the name Hat Fair. The name has stuck and performers are still allowed to Hat, in fact the small-scale circle show is at the heart of the Festival. Now the programme includes innovative community projects, markets, a big picnic, a huge childrens' procession, International large-scale work and commissions, music and large scale spectacular. The only rule is excellence in Outdoor and site specific work. Hat Fair has a unique atmosphere of celebration and vibrancy.
