Prodigal Theatre - The Urban Playground
Prodigal Theatre’s Urban Playground
Team produces dynamic physical performances examining
the relationship between the human body and the
built environment.
Originating in France Parkour, or “L’art
du deplacement” is the art of moving from
one point to another as efficiently and quickly
as possible, using the abilities of the human
body to over come obstacles, which can be anything
in the surrounding environment .
The Urban Playground Team blend the philosophy
of Parkour with contemporary dance and breaking
to produce choreographies reflecting the environments
in which they work.
Prodigal Theatre have developed The Urban Playground
as a modular structure on which practitioners,
or “traceurs”, of this art form can
develop their skills, as well as being the set
for a highly physical choreographed performance.
Urban Playground is a Without Walls commission.
